The external appearance (appearance) of a product or object is called design. Design is what makes a product attractive, likable or desirable, thus significantly contributing to product sales and increasing its commercial value.

Industrial design, as one of the forms of intellectual property, protects the spatial or planar features of the product (industrially or artisanally produced object), visible during its normal (intended) use. Spatial characteristics are the shape and outline of the product, and surface characteristics are patterns, lines, colors, textures and combinations of the aforementioned characteristics.

A protected (registered) industrial design provides the bearer (owner) with the exclusive right to use, i.e. manufacture, offer, put into circulation, and import or export the product in which the industrial design is contained or to which the industrial design is applied.

A protected design is an intellectual property whose use the owner can grant to other persons for the duration of the protection by granting a license, or can completely transfer it to another person.

Industrial design protection is an effective market tool by which a manufacturer can protect his own investments in product development and production.

The protection of the design CAN REPRESENT AN AUTHOR’S WORK THAT IS PROTECTED AS A COPYRIGHT, which protects the interest of the author or creator.

Industrial design as an industrial property right is acquired by registration based on the results of the conducted testing procedure. The basic conditions that a design must meet for the recognition of protection as intellectual property are the novelty and individual character of the design, and that its characteristics are not exclusively conditioned by technical function.
